Our Story
Our story doesn’t start with a deal.
Founder, CEO, acquirer, investor, board member, seller — we’ve sat in nearly every seat at the table.
Why Tallmadge Partners
Before becoming business leaders, we each served our country in uniform. That experience shaped how we think about leadership: as a responsibility grounded in service, stewardship, and commitment to something larger than ourselves.
We founded Tallmadge Partners because we believe America’s small businesses deserve owners who will carry their legacies forward. We acquire and grow exceptional businesses with patience, personal involvement, and a long-term perspective, honoring what their owners have built while investing in the people, customers, and communities that made their success possible.

Tyler Gordy
Partner
Tyler got an early look at business through his dad’s small company, where he saw the long hours, the weight of making payroll, and the responsibility for the people who count on you. He’s been drawn to small businesses ever since.
After 9/11, Tyler enlisted in the Army as an infantryman and deployed to Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division, where he was wounded in action. After returning home, he attended West Point, graduated from Ranger School, and served as an infantry officer with a Stryker unit in Afghanistan. He left the Army in 2014 and entered the MBA program at Harvard Business School. After graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps and chose to work with smaller companies.
In the decade since, Tyler has acquired, grown, and advised companies ranging from $1 million family businesses to half-billion-dollar enterprises. Most recently, as owner and CEO of PWSC, he helped grow the business 18% annually for four consecutive years and led its 2022 sale to PCF Insurance Services, delivering an 11x gross return on invested capital to investors. He currently serves on the advisory board of Kingsway, a publicly traded acquirer and builder of small businesses, and invests in and advises a handful of other companies.
Tyler lives in the Washington, D.C. area, where he advocates for veterans’ mental health. He loves to ski and cycle and spends as much time as he can with his fiancée and their dog, Copper.

Scott Caldwell
Partner
Scott’s first lessons in leadership came in uniform. He served on active duty as a comptroller in the U.S. Air Force, where being accountable for people, resources, and results wasn’t an abstraction — it was the job.
After the Air Force, Scott moved into management consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton, but he wanted to build something of his own.
So he co-founded Washington Business Dynamics (WBD), a Washington, D.C.–area management consulting firm serving commercial, federal, defense, and state and local government clients. As President for more than a decade, he and the WBD team expanded the firm’s capabilities and client base, earning repeated industry recognition for both excellence and culture. In 2023, he led WBD through its acquisition.
His approach hasn’t changed much since the Air Force: don’t promise what you can’t deliver, and stay close to the work.
Scott lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his wife, Katharyn, and is the founder of Families at Formation, a nonprofit supporting military families in need.
